How UploadOff works

UploadOff converts your files on your own computer or phone. Your files are never uploaded: not to us, not to anyone.

Your device does the work

Most online converters ask you to upload your file first. It travels to their server, gets converted there, and you download the result.

UploadOff works the other way round. When you open a converter, your browser loads a small program, the same way it loads any web page. From then on, the converting happens right on your computer or phone. Your photos and documents stay where they are.

  • Other online converters: your file → uploaded to their server → converted there → downloaded back
  • UploadOff: your file → converted on your device → saved

Try it: turn off Wi-Fi

Open any converter and wait for Ready offline under the drop box. Then turn off Wi-Fi, or switch your phone to airplane mode, and convert. It still works, because your files don't need to go anywhere.

Why there are no limits

Cloud converters pay for every file their servers convert, so they cap how many you can do for free. UploadOff has no conversion servers. Your device does the work, so there is nothing to ration: convert one file or a thousand.

Is it slower?

Usually it's faster: there's no upload and no waiting in a queue. A very large file on an older phone can take longer than on a powerful server, but it still never leaves your device.

Why we built it

We made these converters for ourselves. We didn't want to send private photos and documents to a stranger's server just to change a file format. Then we put them online so anyone can use them.

What the site itself collects

The site counts visits and clicks with Google Analytics, so we can see which converters people use and make them better. It never sees your files, their names or what's inside them. The converters are free and unlimited, and ads help keep it that way. The privacy policy has the details.
